Who do you consider "nobody"? I personally LOVE black & white movies!! You can't beat Martin and Lewis, Hope and Crosby, Abbott and Costello, etc... (And don't forget Sci-fi classics too like; "The Day The Earth Stood Still", "The Thing From Another World", "Them", etc...) Turner Classic Movies rocks!!

When I answer questions like this I always get reported, people don't value other people's honest opinion on this board is what I've come to realize in this short period I've been on here. Anyway movies aren't always reality, not everything is history. It might have been worse or better, it might also give you a wrong impression of some events. Make some look good and others look bad. Why do white people make movies like this? is a better question. Why always show blacks suffering or in low paying jobs or as thugs, criminals, etc. Why not let them star in movies like harry potter, lord of the rings, a hero (sorry hancock doesn't count he was shown as a drunk), etc. I think they want to keep whites and blacks hating each other. blacks will see it and think whites are the cause of all evil and hate on whites even if only their ancestors had something to do with slavery or even if they hadn't. And some whites will think they are better than blacks, etc. and even when it is produced by blacks it is still sponsored by the elites. it's to keep people apart and divided rather than united. So the elites can have free range while whites and blacks fight and don't fight against the true enemy.

Not true. The classic black-and-white films of the 30's, 40's , 50's still hold up today, and sell a load of videotapes and DVD's. Of course, the B-movies that are called "cinema noir" are always popular (noir is French for "black", but they mean both the color and the dark-side of life ;point of view they depicted.)

Originally, color photography was so expensive that only A-movies could be made in color; then, when Cinemascope and other wide-screen processes wer developed, audiences were jaded, and regarded a black-and-white film as "cheap", and of a lesser quality than the big colorful extravaganzas.

When television rights to films were sold in the 60's and 70's, the networks only wanted color films--black-and-white films could be sold to networks, but only at a reduced rate over color shows.

Some black-and-white films are still made today, and are well received (Schindler's List, and The Elephant Man., to name only two), when the director and producers believe that the story and the acting is more important than looking "colorful", and that color will only detract from the meaning of the film.

Maybe because younger people never had black & white TV or
movies as the norm when they were growing up, so B &W movies
don't seem as realistic? I wonder if these people have tried watching
"Casablanca", for ex. That's one movie that can ONLY be B&W!
Some of the old monster flicks are great in a cheesy kind of way,
good for some laughs.
It might take more patience than people have, to try watching the
B&W, too.

There are many who are biased about old movies, thinking that they can only be good if they are done the way movies are done today.

For many it is not about the plot or story but the effects. There are still people who enjoy a great story that is well acted rather than flash, and sex, and cgi.

Unfortunately to many get a bias before even seeing the films so if they do watch them they are watching them with the perspective of being ready to really dislike them.

That's not true. There is a whole cable network dedicated to showing old movies, many of which are black and white. Somebody is watching them or the network would be off the air. Try watching TCM. It's true that many or these movies are great works of art!

A lot of people believe everything that is old is useless just because they have the mentality that things are obsolete the second that some new technology comes out. The truth of the matter is that some of the old B&W flicks are just as good, if not better, than some of the recycled tripe that Hollywood is putting out these days.
