Im 17, i was born in the last yrs of the 80's and Pink Floyd was already a kinda old band, and all my family still were big fans of pink floyd, since i was a little child. When i was a kid i seen pink floyd's music videos and heard his songs, and i just thougt they were great because of their style. Now i still love them because of their uniqueness and Many people are still likes them, so i just stopped and start thinking why me and many others still love this band, so far the only things i have tough up about were their uniqueness, and style, but i know theres more, but it just locked deep inside my head, so what is that makes them so great?

They are more than a rock band they fuse in many skilled instruments to thier songs and their songs are very calming and mellow but at the same time catch your attention they just have that certain something that every band looks for but cant be explained or taught,I would guess it is just alot of practice combined with a love for their music and good band chemistry

Drugs? Not a chance. Syd Barrett was the cornerstone of the band until he became too unpredictable. He was the driving force behind The Pink Floyd. After his dismissal, It was Roger Waters who pulled his bandmates together and continued after David Gilmour joined the band. Gilmour brought with him his own musical contributions and the band soon came together as Pink Floyd. With four exceptional and gifted musicians in the same band, it was not hard to create some of history's most unforgettable music. Their creative and adventurous studio efforts were matched by their considerable power as a live act. The live shows have become a multimedia tour de force. The music? It touches a nerve inside all who hear it. How else can one explain "Dark Side of the Moon" staying on the charts for a record 14 years? What makes Pink Floyd so great? I believe it is the fact that the music is still relevant after all these years.

Hi there-
I think that there are people who get touched by both the music and lyrics that bands generate. Floyd is one of my favorite bands. My husband likes the "sound" but maybe knows 1/2 of the lyrics.
To me Floyd has often spoken to story of my life. When I feel alone or that no one understands- I listen to them and find someone who does.
I hope that makes sense to you.

I am a big fan myself, however, I think they really are overrated. David Gilmour has always, in my opinion, been responsible for the sound of their post Syd Barrett years. The concepts and lyrics that define the band came from Waters, but i think the music came from Gilmours guitar. I think the whole drug thing has been blown way out of proportion. With the exception of Syd, I don't think the other members were really into drugs

Pink Floyd were ahead of their time creatively and collectively they made a unique sound by trying new techniques. Gilmore's guitar playing has been pegged as being one of the most unique and creative of all times which only The Edge of U2 has come close to.
it's all in taking chances, man. they did it and it worked. And drugs probably helped.
Peace!

They were before my time as well, and they are my favorite band. They have great lyrics, great voices in Waters and Gilmour. Awesome guitar work by those two. Mason was awesome on the drums, and it all just came together so seamlessly.

It's those damn hippies...no i'm j/k. I'm 24 and Pink is way before my time and I can tell you that "Wish you were here" is one of my fav songs. Your so right about their unique quality. The Lyrics, their overall sound. The movie "The Wall", pretty trippy.

Pink Floyd is a progressive band, which means there is no genre. U can't put a name on it. They are also musical geniuses

Their music tells a story by their instrumental sound that lets you go deep inside of yourself to find out who you real are especially when there are no lyrics. You are the lyrics and they are accompanying you
