I have always used it. But when i just popped a bag of popcorn the bag says do not use the popcorn button! why? it has always worked good for me, but this particual brand (Act II) does not pop very well using that button. I found it strange and was wondering why.

I always use the popcorn button and it turns out just fine. I use the Act II brand; I've never noticed that on there. The popcorn is just right though. I think my microwave cooks it for like three minutes and thirty seconds.

The popcorn button isn't magical...it doesn't sense when the popcorn is done popping, don't you wish it did, though? The best way to pop a bag of popcorn is to put like 5 minutes on the timer, and then when it slows down to about 1 or 2 seconds between pops, hit the stop button. That's when the max amount of kernels will have popped without burning the rest of it.

Yes it works very well. on our old microwave, that was 900 watts it always burnt the popcorn. With the 1100 watts it cooks perfectly. The power of the microwave makes the difference and also if you have a turntable or not.It usually burns without the turntable too.

It all depends on the wattage of your microwave. I always use my microwave's popcorn button and I get a lot of unpopped kernals with certain brands of popcorn, a perfect bag with other's,and burnt pocorn with others. It's a hit or miss usually.

I think it depends on the microwave. I didn't use the popcorn button on my smaller microwave because it always burned it but in my bigger microwave I have no problem using the popcorn button.

Yes, I use the popcorn button. Unless, it is the miniature bag then I won't use the button.

how does the bag of popcorn know whether you push the popcorn button or enter the time?

I don't use it - it never seems to cook the popcorn right. I just remember what brand cooks at what length of time (different brands can be REALLY different). Maybe that's why they don't want you to use the button? :-)
