Most people wear their watch with the face facing outward, but many in the military community wear it facing inward. What's the reasoning/logic behind this?

To prevent the face of the watch from smashing against something hard and thus breaking the watch.

Other professions wear their watches this way also. Usually those that work with their hands a lot.

Military has it facing inward to protect the glass from scratches and damage. It also doesn't flash or glare which could give away their position to the enemy.

That is so funny that you would bring this up since it was brought up on a forum a few days ago: http://forums.timezone.com/index.php?t=tree&th=774432&rid=45677. I think the overall consensus is that it is more practical for shooting to just turn the wrist a little up.
