Wasn't that actually the Spanish flu or something? It was called the Spanish flu because the government here was trying to cover it up, so as not to cause widespread panic, but the media in Spain had no such restrictions, and was able to go in depth with information for the population. And the term "living room" actually came from that disease as well. Because so many people were dying, there was a separate room used to view the dead called a death room or something like that, and when the government believed that the epidemic was at it's end, a nationwide speech was made, saying that because no one else was to die, the room should be called the living room.... actually all very fascinating. Well, have an awesome day!! :)

I know there is a Nova on the 1918 flu. There are books and there are websites other then wikipedia about this. Just type in Spanish Flu. I have read quite a bit. Some believe it actaully started here and was taken to Europe by our troops. But they asked the Europeans what we should do becuase it hit over there bad first. They said start digging graves. I read about people getting the flu and dying within hours. It is just a matter of time until another flu pandemic hits. It peetered out right around the time world war 1 ended. But there are many resources on the SPANISH flu. Try searching on that.
I will tell you a interesting story. I was on a trip in Oklahoma and we went into a grave yard to see some grave markers of relatives. This was a really old graveyard. I saw many grave markers where both people had died like days apart in 1918. I am sure they were victims of the Spanish flu.

There are a few excellent recent books on the 1918 flu, including Barry's THE GREAT INFLUENZA (2004), Kolata's FLU (2001) and Crosby's AMERICA'S FORGOTTEN PANDEMIC (2001). Here's a great web resource from Stanford U: http://virus.stanford.edu/uda/

You probably hadn't heard of it because a lot of people didn't/don't talk about it much (probably because it was so bad and sad memories). I didn't even know that my fathers parents died of it when he was a baby, until after he died a few years ago. So, about all I know about it is what I've read.
