I have 3...
My mom put our dog to sleep when I was 16 and told me after the fact so I didn't even get to say good-bye.
Then I had a female cat that had a litter and we kept one of her sons and he was hit by a car outside our home and I watched him be born and I was the first to find him dead.
My third was a cat that I got for Christmas and he disappeared several years later and that still upsets me to this day cause he was the coolest cat we ever had.

I think most people have lost a pet before or at least some point in time and it's a very hard thing to go threw. I've lost sevreal pets over the years. When I was 6 years old I came home from school ready to play with our collie Carly and found out my mom had put her to sleep when we where at school so I know how that feels. Then I had a toy poodle named Fluff who would go with me everywhere, sleep with me at night, and just loved me to pieces and she died on out couch in my arms. Then I had a cat Baby who was the best cat ever more like a human then a cat and we had to put her to sleep about 3 years ago. I've also had cats run away and never come back home. Im a vet tech and work at an animal hospital and was fostering 7 kittens and hand feeding them one of them died and that was hard too. Ive also lost sevral fish, baby birds, and a hamster. Im very sorry to hear about your losses.

Pets are like family members.
when I was a child I had a pet grave yard.
I made headstones for all my beloved pets.

Perhaps you could do that for your 3 pets, and pay them your respects, and it might make you feel better, and help give you closure. Write a poem to your beloved cats, and honor their memory.

When my 2nd dog died of heart failure, it was like a family death!
A parent should never take a pet away without a child saying their good-byes. Your Mom only did what she thought was best with what she knew how to do at the time.
*as a parent, you will know better and learn from this and be a great pet owner and parent!

I wish you the best!
I hope your 4th cat is wonderful!

My best dog is the one I have currently with me!!!
they are all unique and special creatures, but be it my 1st dog or my 5th, the one I have now, in this moment is always #1.
It's not fair to compare one pet to another's memory!

Be well. Let go, you cat would want you to be happy.

I grew up in the country with lots of cats. We have lost many of them due to coyotes or them being too stupid to not get under a car when it is running. I have personally ran over 3, and it breaks my heart every time. For about 10 years we would get a dog, keep it for roughly two years, and then it would either be ran over, get so sick with disease it had to be put to sleep, or die of disease. Even after all of this time, it still hurts to lose them. I know that it is a part of life, but my heart just can't accept it.

Yes I have. I lost my precious Sandy in December of 2002. I got her when I was 11 back in 1988. She was the sweetest dog ever. I miss her so much even 'til this day. We have another dog named Sadie who is awesome too and if anything ever happened to her, I don't know that I'd want another pet. I can't go through losing another one. Sadie just tore a ligament in her knee the other night and now she has to have surgery. Poor baby. So yes, it is very hard to lose a pet and I think about my Sandy girl every day and every night.

I have had a number of pets over the years (I'm almost 52); most have died or been euthanized; a couple had to be given away for a variety of reasons when I was very young, and a couple simply disappeared (my cats now live indoors). It is inevitable that we will outlive the great majority of our pets, since our lifespan is so much longer. I have an Abyssinian cat that is almost 16 years old, and I know that he is in the last years of his life; I will be very sad when he dies, but I will have had lots of great time with him. I also lost a ten-year-old Siamese cat to cancer last June, but I now have a Siamese kitten that is 11 months old.

I believe that you have to weigh the pain you know that you will feel against the happiness and companionship your pets give you during their lifetimes. For myself, I choose to experience the pain in order to have the positive experiences and benefits my pets have always brought me; I cannot imagine my life without animals in it.

I lost a Dog about 3 weeks ago. Her name was Smokey. She was an old dog probably 11 or 12 . Half shepard/half husky she was a bad *** dog when she was younger. But by now she was an old lady dog who had lost most of her front teeth. She liked to get of her dog house when the sun got up on cold mornings and lay in the sunshine by the end of the driveway. Well one of our neighbors collects strays.....and the whole pack of them jumped on Smokey and tore her up so bad that the vet couldnt save her. Now I love dogs...but I look I have three other dogs that live in the house/yard......what happens to them if they get out of the yard when I'm at work...and the pack is running loose again....do I let them get torn up too....I have filed a complaint with the sheriffs office.......I don't want to ....but if I have to I'll shoot them

last year we had to put down our beloved TJ , he was an awsome Rat Terrier dog we got from the SPCA and we had him 13 yrs. he was my 9 yr olds shadow, one day my son went in to the back yard of a neighbor that had a siberian huskey and the huskey was out of his cage and he attacked my son and my dog TJ interviened and saved my son but TJ was hurt terribly, my son was not hurt at all, they got their dog and put him away, and came to get me and my dog was hurt bad, I took him to the vet hospital and his hips were broken and he lost most of his teeth, he was too old to try to work on him, so we gathered up all of our family at the vet and we circled around him and prayed and cried and let him go peacefully, we have a lovely little grave garden out back for him. My son was devistated for a while, he is ok now, but we will never forget that awsome sweet dog. He was the best and we miss him.
