The more axles the heavier the load. The double tires are for safety i.e. if one blows it won't tip or lose control.

It spreads the payload of the weight evenly if the load is balanced out,1 set of tires at 100psi can hold about 12'500 safely on 22" rims,34'000 per axle with split rims(4 Tires per axle)safely.the more tires,the heavier the weight and the more support per pound

Because of all the weight! Tires can only hold so much. So additional tires are needed. Also restrictions on certain highways or roads may require trucks to have additional tires on roadway when caring large loads

so the weight is not all on six tires and it would be horable if it was how bout a flat tire with 20 ton of material riding on a rim
