ORIGINAL beats them ALL. Shatner rules!

Next Generation by a comfortable margin. The original will be permanently damaged by the disastrous third season when the network was trying to kill it. Cut the extras, cut the budget for sets and writers and then net result was in fact as painful as you would expect. Next Generation never had that particular problem.

And Patrick Stewart is a much better actor than Shatner.

Now if the question were whether the Original or Next Generation had the better episodes... that would be a much tougher question. There were some fantastic episodes in the original... City on the Edge of Forever comes to mind... but then so did Next Generation.

I really can't compare the two.

I saw the original when it came out on TV, and was in awe!!! Shatner was the captain from heaven, Nimoy played a Vulcan like, IMHO, no-one has ever since...and the script : we'd never seen anything like it before.

Nowadays I like the Next Generation better, simply cuz it's closer to the era we live in now.....but that doesn't mean I now think the original Star Trek is less good, know what I mean?

Different generations will choose a different series, each for their own reasons. The Original Series will always be the best one for me, but, thats the one I grew up with.
The Next Generation is great too... but only because it has better sets, bigger budgets and special effects.

I like them both, for different reasons. The original had some very good basic sci-fi stories; Next Generation was made in a time period where they were freer to discuss a variety of issues than TOS, so it is very worthwhile as well.

Original. Some things you can just never improve. He was so way ahead of his time.
