will a flickr user be able to know if his/her photo has been favorited? or the times it has been favorited, just like in youtube?

Yes, what happens is when you go to sign in it takes you to this general page. On that page you will see something highlighted like, "New comments". When you click there, you will get a page that says, "recent activity on your photos" That will show any comments, or favorites.
If you don't see it there, you have an option under, 'Your Photos' you would click on, 'Popular' and then the next page, click on 'Favorites'. That will show any of YOUR photos that anyone has favorited, and who did that.
It might be a tad confusing because the page before that will show 'Favorites' but those are YOUR favorites, not ones from other people.
