Come on Ladies, Consider the source, and by that I mean the speaker in "As Good As It Gets", not the poster.
Melvin Udall : a romance writer with some serious social/mental problems. The whole reason the line is in the movie is to show where he's coming from.
Now to answer if its true:
Ever read a romance book? Especially the older ones from the 80's.Even better if they're the cheap ones like the old Harlequins. They're written for idiots with a third grade reading level. The female charcters in them usually have zero brains,or morals ( reason or accountablity)
How do i've know this? I sometimes tried to read one for lack of anything better in the house ( My grandmother was a fiend for that stuff). I usually wound up throwing them at the wall. I've stumbled over a good one once or twice, but most are garbage. Personally, I think a lot of Cosmopolitan articles are written for the same type of reader. One artitcle called "A smart way to avoid rape!" boiled down to the advice - don't get drunk in public alone. Do women really need to be told this? I think the ones that do are the ones that this quote applies to.

In the contest of the movie "As Good as it Gets" it was true to an author (Jack Nicholson) of romance novels when he was at his psychiatrists office. He had extreme Obsessive Compulsive Disorder & was off of his medication. This was a great movie and when Jack Nicholson delivered that line so perfectly, it was hilarious. It was one of the funniest parts of the movie to see the face on the actress when that was his response to her question about how he knew so much about women. He had a mental problem, she was on his nerves because she was a fan who would not leave him alone and in true Nicholson form, he told her that remark to make her feel dumb. If you missed the fictional movie with Jack Nicholson playing the role of an obsessive compulsive author who was a but crazy due to his unwillingness to stay on his medicatiion (with numerous other hilarious lines that only Nicholson could deliver so well) you must see the movie in it's entirity. Then you may understand the context of the line. After his medication takes affect, he regains his sanity in full.
Go rent it and enjoy!! Don't forget the popcorn!!!

An epigram like this one begs a cool response. It seems appropriate for a lonely character because it reveals a need for the company of someone who has enough wit-character to return his jibes with equal feigned detachment. Passions arise that have the potential for attachment. Recently I watched "Love Story". It was the female character, Jennifer (Ali MacGraw), that attracted the male, Oliver (Ryan O'Neal), with similar taunting, in this movie. So it works both ways. This sort of dialectical exchange is just a means to an end, unless carried out in a hurtful way.

I don't know anymore. God will deal with it. In the Genesis, God define His ' biblical marriage is to procreate and inhabit the earth' and live with God's law and use God- given earth's resources. Then comes men's law: it twisted & severely handicapped God's commandment to be inoperable. Think of the Israelites dancing & rocking at the foot of Mt Sinai and worshiping a golden calf, while Moses has been away for only 40 days!! What a bunch of stiff-necked people that are not worth of God's promises and you know what happened: That's what this perverse generation will end up to. Exodus 25 When Moses realized that, to the scornful joy of their foes, Aaron had let the people run wild, 26 he stood at the gate of the camp and cried, "Whoever is for the LORD, let him come to me!" All the Levites then rallied to him, 27 and he told them, "Thus says the LORD, the God of Israel: Put your sword on your hip, every one of you! Now go up and down the camp, from gate to gate, and slay your own kinsmen, your friends and neighbors!" 28 The Levites carried out the command of Moses, and that day there fell about three thousand of the people.

No, the quote is quite off the mark. It came from a lame movie, with a pathetic old womanizer as the leading man. It was written by men. Big shocker! The only thing lamer than the movie is you and your little lackeys. However, I will dismiss you as all the other women in your life must. I will rejoice in the fact that you lost two points to ask this. Oh, yeah - thanks for the two points.

How come prisons are filled with men and not women, how come men shirk their responsibilities as parents more than women? The quote should be: To describe a woman, think of a man and add intelligence, responsibility and concern for others.

that was an ironic line said by a character played by jack Nicholson in the film "as good as it gets" and he played a neurotic man, so it was said to express his sick and funny way of looking at women and why he fears them, in order for you to come and take the line out of its context is pure absurd!! try reading more than spending a lot of time watching movies

good one lady bec- touche
champ i have a thought for you mate, think this one over a while and let me know what you come back with.
How many women have been involved in advocating war? (reasoning) How many women have been involved in putting the food on the table, them money in the bank accounts and caring for the children? (accountability)
my friend women in 99% of case are the primary care givers for the children and elderly - both are our most valuable assets- would you put these in the hands of a person who shows neither reasoning or accountability?????
work it out mate.
I do have advice for you though- think on what you are about to ask before you ask- your questions can be offencive and offhanded to the masses.
No harshness intended but just some friendly advice to help you get some more positive responses in future..
cheers

I think anyone who thinks it is true is as crazy, misanthropic, and bitter as the guy (the character, that is) who said it. Taking this "quote" and using it in a non-ironic context is like quoting from the movie "Borat" and taking everything he says and does at face value. Anyone who would do either lacks an understanding of irony.

Why don't you take some time off to learn about spelling, punctuation and how to properly structure a sentence? You constantly insult women on this forum, yet are barely literate yourself: trust me, the irony of this is not lost on us. We'd really like to know: what's up with that???
