Paul McCartney was knighted by Queen Elizabeth II on Monday December 30th, 1996. The investiture ceremony took place on Tuesday March 11, 1997. Obviously before the albums release, but the songs may have been written at anytime.

The song "Beautiful night" was recorded originally by Paul in 1986 with Billy Joel's band and produced by Phil Ramone. The lyrics change a bit in the 1997 version, and the line "even if i get a medal from my local neighborhood" was one of the changes. The orchestra was recorded in february 1997.

The above poster is correct and bearing in mind then that the song was written in the 80's I always thought that the line about the medal from the local neighborhood was refering to when Paul and the rest of the Beatles were made "free men" of the city of Liverpool back in 1984.
