My friends lied to me about a creepy guy they hooked me up with. They kept things from me about him but told him everything they knew about me so he stood out to me like he was perfect for me. Then later they talked badly about me and went around spreading rumours. Only with me, they feel compelled to keep secrets, but they talk about me to others and people know about me through them. My question is, what do you think of this? Are they my friends or not? I need to know what to make of all this. Why do they talk about me like this? Do I need new friends?

I think you know the answer to your questions.

Friends don't treat friends like you've described. I'm sorry this has happened to you, it sounds terrible. Friends should support you and your interests and have your well being and success at the front of their minds and their behavior should reflect this. It has been my experience that people who behave like you have described eventually get what they deserve. So just move on and find more positive relationships and don't look back, they'll be swimming in their own nastiness for a very long time.

Well what are the good parts to them? Why are you their "friend" in the first place? If you can't answer those 2 Q's then they obviously aren't your real friends. It seems like they REALLY are not your friends. I would drop them like it's hot and go get some real friends. If they keep harassing you like this, ignore it. Paying attention to the problem only serves their purpose. And one day karma will come to bite 'em in the @$$ a LOT worse.

Yes definitely. Anyone who talks bad things about you behind your back, especially rumors, are not your friends. Distance yourself from these people and try to make new friends. They are doing this because they don't really see you as a true friend or don't value your friendship.
