Its because politicians have to get in the news if they want to get re-elected so they make new laws that we don't need. What is really needed in most cases is just better enforcement of the laws that are already on the books, but how is that going to get anyone re-elected?

A drunk driver murdered my sister, so as far as I'm concerned, anything the states can do to keep intoxicated idiots out of the driver's seat is a step in the right direction. Nazi Germany persecuted people for things they couldn't (and shouldn't) help--being Jewish, being gypsies. DWI laws only persecute people for something they have some control over--driving while intoxicated.

Eastern Penna. is pretty much the same. I mean, you don't
have to be messed up to be pulled over - the cops just have to
invent a reason or say it's a routine check.
Just have a beer or 2 - your license is lost for a year, you have
to attend AA meetings & pay about a $1000. in fines.
That's why I hardly know anyone who goes out on the
weekends anymore.

Good! My aunt and uncle were almost killed by a drunk driver, not to mention a cop, two people he hit that were walking down the street and numerous cars tha were damaged. DWI or DUI is not a joke, not by any means, and if you commit the crime you should be lucky to walk the streets and not end up in jail. Maybe people will get it and just call a cab!

They are getting tougher because drinking and driving is a very wreckless activity. Just ask anyone who has lost a loved one to a drunk driver. If you drink, get a DD.
