low levels. I do not have heavy periods and I eat right, but I continue to feel tired and sick. I know no one is a doctor here, but has anyone else had a similar problem?

That doesn't sound right to me. I would ask to be refered to a hematologist. There may be an underlying problem. And if not, at least the hematologist will probabably get your iron levels up quicker, maybe with iron shots since you don't seem to be absorbing the iron pills. I highly recommend this book if you can find it in your local bookstore or in your library. "The Iron Disorders Institute Guide to Anemia"

Yes. Low iron isn't good but there is other way to get iron and you don't have to take pills. Eat the right foods. Flax seeds, Spinach.. etc..
If you continue to feel tired all the time try uping you B-12. It is what keeps your blood cells healthy. Exercising helps increase blood oxygen so even if your tired... go for a walk.. get moving!

and also look into the raw food diet. I betcha it will cure you!

Well I am a physician and although I cannot give you a true answer beacuse you ned proper blood investigations to determine facts.

Constant taking of iron tablets may result in constipation and a slowing of the metabolism This will make you tired. But to be sure that it is not other factors like high blood pressure or other problems return to your doctor for proper follow up

It sounds like you have anemia, that is why you are probably taking the iron pills. You can also eat veggies that have iron it and more meat. Spinach and brocoli have iron, dark green veggies. add a little citrus like lemon to help absorb the iron.

Your doctor is being negligent in simply prescribing iron supplements for you and not investigating the actual cause of your anemia.

If it helps you at all, my father had the same problem. His doctor felt that anemia was a symptom of something else, and his doctor was right. My father had a problem absorbing Vit B12, and needed injections on a routine basis for the rest of his life.
