My solution is a little drastic, but it could work. Try giving a speech in front of people that you know well. But here's the curveball. Try giving the speech completely naked. It'll be tough at first, but if you can calm down and deliver a speech naked, you should have no problem doing them fully clothed.

If you want to try any medication, please get a physical from a doctor first. I've heard of pretending (imagining) the audience is in their underwear. But a really helpful thing, at least for me, is to look above everyone's heads, and at a "spot" you pick on the wall behind them. The "exit" sign, or some "spot" you pick out on the wall. Also, if you practice a speech the night before you need to give it, say, in front of a mirror in your home, that should help as well. Take care.

beginning by making important announcements to people you are comfortable with, then work your way up to larger crowds of people that you are and are not comfortable with, it may be helpful to read about relaxation ideas that you can practice before during and after you public speaking. you can always take a public speaking class that should help ;)

Paxil will help with all of those symptoms. Zoloft helps too and so does Klonopin, lorazepam or any other benzodiazepene...you should talk to your doctor.

first of all, is it important that you are a public speaker? if your job requires it, then you can get over it best by just doing it. face your fear and see that it will not kill you and it won't hurt you. if your life does not require that you do it, then don't worry about it. don't force it upon yourself unless it is something that is required of you.
