I understand the concerns of people about the imitation of waif like models yet we have a huge amount of people who are overweight rather than underweight in this country. Is it really a concern?

personally i think it should go on the bmi (body mass index) if the model is an unhealthy weight for her height then it's a problem but (i.e if it's under 18 then shes under weight ) i do think there is a problem i mean size zero is just too stick thin and isn't an image that should be admired

Yes, I think that being a size 0 model is as dangerous as being obese or morbidly obese. It is a problem and is dangerous for womens health either size. Fashion sizes these days have got smaller and smaller that some well known high street shops only stock up to a size 14.

When some women or even teenage girls who are bigger than a size 0 look at these women in fashion magazines and in the media they automatically believe being smaller and slimmer is better.

They see these waif like models and want to be fashionable and fit into those tiny clothes without thinking about the health issues that comes with it.

These things lead to eating disorders, stress and even depression and even if they ain't overweight they see that they are never thin enough because of the images they see in the media everyday.

I think size 0 models are only size 0 to stay a successful model and that is the only reason they are that small. For the health of women size 0 should be raised on the catwalk to a more realistic healthier size that most women can wear without dieing for fashion.

I dont think this should be a concern. some people are naturally very thin. I have a friend who has had two children in the last 2 1/2 years and has went back to a six 6/8 (UK). Not that she has been on some super diet she is just built that way naturally.

I am a healthy size 12 and do not feel any threat from this. People should just be confident for how they are naturally!!
I know a lot of my friends who are always going on about diets and loosing weight which is such a shame coz they are all really out going and have great personalities.

Remember folks personality over shines all imperfections!!
NOBODY IS PERFECT, EVEN SKINNIES GET CELLULITE!! hahaha

x
BE CONFIDENT!!

Yes. The concern should be with extremes. Both extremely underweight and overweight. While overweight people are condemned and criticised, underweight models are valued and celebrated! If fashion designers insist that their clothes look best on size zero then why don't they just present them on clothes hangers? Human beings have a shape. Women have a shape. Why should we place pressure on young girls to look like they have spent a few years in a concentration camp, just so that a bunch of self-indulgent designers can create clothes which are unwearable by the general public?

I've never seen a Size Zero person. Are they so thin they are only visible in certain kinds of light?

Seriously though, the problem is the pressure the media places on youth to achieve such a look. If someone is naturally that small then they don't deserve to be persecuted but personally I don't think its always a healthy look. If you happen to be size zero and are reading this, I'm just a little jealous but don't hate you for it.

It all depends why the model is a size 0......

if its through eating disorders then in my opinion they shouldn't be aloud to model but on the other hand there are girls who are naturally this small who eat and live there lives in the same way any other healthy person does.....these size 0 models should be aloud......

There should also be a more varied range of model sizes....ok so there are plus sized models but how often do you see them in magazines........the thinner models always seem to get a lot more coverage and that is mostly what is wrong.......

Yes, it is. Spend a while on the 'Diet & Fitness' section and notice how many young girls are asking if they are fat that weigh under 100lb! It's frightening, they think anything above a size 0 is fat and it's all because of the media and the fashion industry. If this issue is not addressed soon, it could really get out of hand.

HTH : )

I think the problem is that fashion is not representative. Size 0s would not be a problem if they were among a showcase of catwalk models of all shapes and sizes, but they are ALL size 0. I personally have no problem with them being skinny, but then I suppose sadly there are girls who would grow up feeling inadequate because they are 'bigger'.

I think its sort of a problem. Some models, in UK and abroad, have died because of heart failures and anorexic-connected illnesses etc. Teenagers and young women are constantly obssessed with their weight; I went to a party last week and my friend, who isn't fat and isn't skinny ordered a diet coke. She constantly tells me she is fat when she's nowhere near fat. Size 0 models play a small part of this because girls need to realise they really aren't fat! In magazines, one of the cover titles were "Celeb Weight Battles" and they showed a picture of Jessica Simpson, who looked like a normal size woman - she wasn't even chubby!
This is easy for my to say because I'm naturally skinny but its the truth.

Well obesity rates are increasing every year.. And it would be nice to see well shaped models instead of the scary grotesque ultra skinny girls on the catwalk... I don't find it pretty. As for me, this size zero thing isn't even a concern... It's their lives.. Wasting away to dust is their choice.
