Ok first of all, DO NOT use a Q-tip. That can damage your ear and cause an ear infection. Over the counter drops work, but ifyour looking for a quick no hassel solution, you can take some rubbing alcohol, pour a very little amount into the cap, and then put a few drops in your ear. Let the alcohol get in, it may tickle a little bit, andthen tilt your head so that your ear is towards the ground and let it drain.

Sleep on that ear. Or pull your ear lobe and tilt your head and jump around like a monkey. Haha sorry. But really, it helps. People do it all the time, and it works. You could also use a Q-tip, but be very careful. Don't push it in too far. Don't worry. Usually the sleeping on it will do the trick if you can't get the water out by shaking it out.
And to some other responders: seriously, if you have water in your ear, don't put ear drops in your ear. I really don't think putting more water in your ear is going to help, and it can't be healthy to put alcohol in your ear.
....
One more thing, swimmer's ear is an infection, not the simple act of getting water in one's ear. No ear drops.

Go to wal-mart and get the drops that are for swim ear. I think that is what it is called. It works like a miracle as soon as it goes in. Leave it in overnight and you will be as good as new in the morning. I am a swimmer and I go about everyday and I always get water in my ears. Just whatever you do do not use a q- tip because it will push the ear wax that is blocking the water farther back and then you will have some real problems. Also to avoid swimmers ear do not clean your ears out everyday because you are removing the greatest bacteria fighting agent in your ear. If your ear is to clean of wax it can not fight the bacteria in the water that is entering your ear and sitting there and it will lead to swimmers ear that is very very painful. I am speaking from experience. Good luck and I hope you get it taken care of soon.

Because I remembered answering this a while back, I searched for this question on prior questions--searching for "water ear swim," I got 84 versions of this same question.
On the one I read, there was a lot of good advice. It's here:
http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=At7xojeixKAezQw06kp9Hyjsy6IX?qid=20070111120515AAoIUDA&show=7#profile-info-41e78c539802e35ae8d8cb121973b917aa
As I wrote before, I'd recommend a couple of drops of rubbing alcohol. It evaporates very quickly, so it dries itself up, and the water as well, and is not, as some people seem to think, the equivalent of adding more water to your ear.
In addition, swimmer's ear is an infection, but it is CAUSED by allowing water to stay inside your ears after swimming. Just like a puddle of mud that sits for a long time and gets stagnant and stinky, standing water in your ears can foster bacteria growth to the point where your ears start to really hurt.
So using alcohol to clean out your ears is both useful to rid yourself of the annoying water, and for good swimming hygiene to avoid future problems.

well does it hurt like alot? cuz then its something called swimmers ear. but if it doesnt you could try putting ear drops in your ear or just lay on one side (the side with the water ) and let it fall out ( like turn that way when you sleep) thats the best i got.

The only thing I can suggest take a Q tip and carefully try to get it out by holding your head sideways.
I had it once and it disappeared, but I also got Vertigo from it and had to get a prescription.

Whatever you do, do NOT use ear drops. Because my daughter did that (use ear drops) and she ended up getting a hole in her eardrum.
