I've heard some contractors say that, but you know, I'm the kind of person that doesn't believe it till I read it on the Internets.

Is there an official site which claims this. www.osha.gov is silent on it.

They are not banned by OSHA. With OSHA's push for safety at construction sites some construction companies are prohibiting them from use, but there is no federal OSHA standard banning them.

I didn't track down to see if any of the states running their own OSH plan regulates them, but fed OSHA definitely does not.

They have been rumored banned since I was in drywall back in the late 80's! I've always said that when someone proves it to me, I'll take them off. Then again I bailed out of this field when I found out the horrible after affects of using the vinyl compound (tapping mud) used in coating and tapping. Wet it's no problem, sanding this stuff is an instant problem. You think silicosis is bad....this stuff will make that look like a sniffle!

If you are talking about putting the shoes on your foot and stepping on the stilts, YES. If you are talking about attaching the shoes to the stilt, ABSOLUTELY NO! You will run the risk of a broken ankle or worse if you fall, or are knocked off balance by someone.

No, I'm a contractor. I see guys on the jobs using them all the time. Osha comes around to the jobs sometimes for inspections too. Most are comercial jobs that I'm on.

Contractor here.

No they aren't banned. You can purchase them at several equipment stores. They run about $250 for a quality set.

I don't think they are. You should check
with some drywall companies but I've seen
them used on TV homeshows here in the
US.
