I was thinking about purchasing one, or even both, but what do you think is better, I know a laptop is more convienient, for traveling, but as far as memory space and the overall things you need on your computer would a laptop store it, if you had to choose what would it be? And what is the best Laptop to purchase?

I would recommend a desktop. The problem with a laptop is that it is very costly to upgrade. Most if not all the hardware on a laptop is propriatary (must be from/for the right make/mode of laptop) where as a desktop computer most parts are interchangable. If something goes in desktop you can normally replace it for a reasonable amount of money. If something goes in a laptop its often not worth the cost to repair it. not to mention the biggest problem I have had with laptops is the batteries. They seem to ware down really fast and to replace them is again costly when/if you can find another battery. often by the time you need a new one the company has moved on to no laptops and no long sells parts to yours.

Laptops have thier uses but I guess what you need to ask yourself is "What do I need it for? Will I get my moneys worth out of it?" If you plan to use it once or twice a month it might not be a viable option. if you plan to use it daily then it just may be. I find a blackberry and a desktop provide me with all that I need. Where as my son who is in the Airforce and stationed on a ship (dont ask me this is canada. It makes sense in Canada) so is often out at see for a month or more at a time has got a lap top that he does use.

I just know that I have 4 "dead" laptops around the house here. All of them "work" but One I cant get a cd rom for all three have batteries that wont hold a charge and one I can not get the ports to work on it. None are worth repairing.

Laptops are more for students, business people, or people that need a personal computer that isn't meant for sharing. A desktop is more of a family and home computer. So if you're getting it for work or school I'd suggest getting a laptop.

I like Dells

depends really on what you are looking for. I've had both and now that i have a laptop i miss my desktop. I say go for the desktop and hook it up with a flat screen and your good to go. Plus they are making the towers much smaller now go with a dell.

I'd recommend a desktop. Even though it's not portable, it gives you a whole lot more power for a lot less of a price.
