Ha ha- I saw that on the BBC website, some guy getting decked for crossing in the wrong place....
Sadly never happened to me when I was living in NY...
Jaywalking is illegal but as far as i am concerned you'll only get caught if you do it right in front of some super-bored cops...

What? That is totally not true.
There are laws for jay walking but I have never known anyone to get arrsted or fined or even stopped. And I have jaywalked a ton of times even in front of a police officer. It isnt a big deal.

I do not know where you get this info, is it the schoolyard shed or the legal journal of the US.

You can be arrested for jaywalking, but this is a fineable offence, that is totally minor, and can be considered to your dog fouling the pathway.

Unfortunately you may be a foreigner or maybe a terrorist or different skin, so undue precautions are taken.

not true, but for your safety, try not to do it. Consider the number of accidents between cars and pedestrians..
