Witchcraft and spellcrafting are very much real. Wicca is a religion, based on worshipping ancient Sabbats (holy days) and gods and goddesses that are Earth and Nature based.
Wicca and Witchcraft are not the same thing. You don't have to practice Witchcraft to be Wiccan; all Wiccans do not do spells.
It takes a long time and a lot of energy, work, and effort to cast a spell, and it is a VERY serious undertaking. Once a person has studied (a year and a day to become initiated, but possibly longer to actually learn the actual art of casting a spell) they then can begin thinking of spells, etc.
It is very irresponsible to try to cast a spell without proper guidance and proper instruction. We have a rule called the 3 Times 3 Rule: Whatever we send out comes back to us multiplied 3 times over. In other words, if we cast a spell, whatever energies we send out will be multiplied back to us 3 times. That's why it's important for the person doing the spell to know what they are really doing before they try.
There is no such thing as "black" or "white" magick. There is only harmful intentions sent out by the person doing the spell.
If you are thinking of doing something like this, please be very careful. Read, read! Someone above mentioned Laurie Cabot--she is a wonderful resource, and has written many great books on Witchcraft.
It is all very, very real. But please understand how serious it is! Not like Bewitched, as someone said. It is not to be taken lightly at all. Blessings to you...

I sense that the first Amy is a bit fed up with the Religious Right. and that's ok, I have been there. And the second Amy really knows her stuff!
Yes, it is real, we do cast spells, but can't turn people into toads and we don't have magic wands or "powers" that you see in Charmed or Harry Potter. That is pure fantasy. If I cast a spell to get my house cleaned it just might be a way to motivate myself do do it! I would love to be able to twitch my nose and make it happen! The spells we cast work just as well (sometimes better than) as Christian prayer, because basically it is the same thing we just seem to be able to concentrate and focus our intent. Generally they are spells of protection and healing. The number one thing we believe in is "do as you will, but harm none" and the fact that anything anyone does will come back on them times 3, good or bad.
We are basically just normal people who have done a lot of study on earth effects. That is how herbs work to help, what kind of earth power certain stones hold. how colours affect things. Like if you are in a light green room you will be relaxed and if you are in a red room you will feel anxious. Kinda like that.

Witchcraft is indeed real but has ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to do with Satan. Witches do not acknowledge any devil, that is an entirely Abrahamic concept and not something to do with magic(k). I have never heard of saying spells in latin but I suppose you could if you wanted to. It could even add power - but only because you put more energy into it. Any other language would work equally as well but you have to understand what you are saying. Witchcraft is using natural energy to bring about a needed effect, such as healing someone or bringing good fortune. - Joanna Eve

Yes, magick, witchcraft and spells are real. Its power however comes from your mind. So its limitations are set by the individual practioner. If you want to be technical everyone is already practicing magick - it's most accepted definition is by Aleister Crowley and says, "the Science and Art of causing change to occur in conformity with Will." which means we all do it anyway.

It's too hot to be dealing with questions this absurb right now, so I'll counter your question and ask you if Catholisicm or even Christianity are real? They all have the same premise behind them, only witchcraft is butchered in the movies and on television as being something it is not.

Now you should have guessed the response to this question from the non-believers. However, I'm not one of those. I am currently studying to become a wiccan and I can tell you now it is real and it works. And wicca/witchcraft is most definately a real religion.

Just as real as God's and Jesus's miracles (you know, bread and fishes, water and wine, plagues of Egypt, burning bushes, resurrection from the dead, to name a few). The problem is that supporters of Christian doctrine do not recognize other gods and their miracles.
Since witchcraft is an art in hands of other gods' servants it creates an element of competition and jealousy. So you decide.

The question of Transcendental and Emperical...
Its really all theory, anything that is believed to be proven is usually inside the mind, or beyond the scope of science, or so it is believed.
People dedicate their lives to answer that very question. Many will tell you of their experiences, and others will tell you of their skepticism. I myself stand in the centre, taking and unbiased position and study, and practice what I can, and come to conclusions, many I just find to be self hypnosis, lucid dreaming, to mention a few.
Its up to you where you stand, if you want a solid answer, the only one I know of, is research of your own.
My Personal Belief: There are things that science hasn't proven.

Yes, they are real. Witchcraft, also known as Wicca is a religion. The "magick" of which you speak are spells (or prayers, if you will) cast.
