2002 Ford Explorer transmission just started slipping. "OD" light comes on. Is there an additive or anything to temporarily stop this? In the old days people used to use sawdust. I just need to make it last until I trade it in this week. Somebody has to know a trick.

you can go to your local parts store and they sell this stuff for trans from anything form a overhaul in a can to seal leak stopper. before you try this stuff make sure that your trans is not low on fluid I have the same car and since they do not have a trans dip stick the only way you can tell if it is low is to crawl under the car and there is a sight glass on the trans you can look at. if low there is alsoa plug on the trans for adding fulid.

try adding another quart of fluid to th trans. 1 quart over full will not hurt the transmission.I use this trick on rebuilt transmissions a lot. If this doesn't work, you probably have a bad oil pump in the trans.

i own a repair shop, and really there isn't ,if its actually slipping it means the clutch packs and bands are burnt up in it,and no chemical or adjustment is going to repair this damage, all you can do is rebuild it,or just replace it with another one,but all the trick chemicals you see that say they will work ,they wont ,its just a waste of money, try and have a good transmission mechanic check it and see what he says about it,a good hands on diagnosis would help on this one, good luck i hope this help,s.

There are no tricks to make it last a little more. Unless you mean like a few miles. Some trans fix products will soften the rubber seals and let the car move a little but it makes the damage worse in no time. STP oil can do the same thing but I wouldn't trust it.

try some k&w trans-x. comes in a quart can. i do a lot of car dealer work and have seen many automatics "patched" and sent to the sale. if anything liquid will make it work, this stuff will. most parts stores such as napa carry this stuff.

The Only thing you can do is get it fixed. if you put something in the trans it could make the problam worse or not work at all, trust me, i build street rods for a living.

sounds like it needs a filter change(screen) and the bands tightened, no quick fix other than a fluid change really
