None outside of Ethiopia. Within Ethiopia, the Ethiopic script was developed. Also in the Sahara was the Meroitic script and further west a native script developed by the Berber. Of course, Egyptian hieroglyphics were also African, but not sub-Saharan.

they had contact with the arabs prior to the europeans, so many sub-saharans used arabic written languages as well as speaking it and practices islam.
