all of it? just the tip?

I just watched a video of some heavy metal guy who lost the first digit of two fingers on his left hand (fretboard hand). He made a prosthetic device that fit on the tip of his knuckle and was still able to play. If you lost the whole finger you may have to learn how to use the fingers yo have left more effectively. I'd say, yes, you can still play the guitar. It'll just be a little harder at first. Unless you don't want to play anymore and this is the perfect excuse to whimp out and quit.

Where there is a will, there is a way!!!! You could remove one string.I heard of someone the other day that plays his guitar with only 5 strings, but can't remember who it was. Also hardly anyone plays a chord right on it and unless you are a concert classical guitar player if a chord is slightly off,so what? You can also use about a 3in piece of copper tubing on your little finger or middle finger and give your licks that bluesy wang. Paul Mc catrney and a few others played left handed and did this by switching all the strings over to left handed as well . Your musical career isn't over, no sir ,not by a long shot. You are just going to have to improvise a little is all

I'm sorry to hear that. It wont be easy and you may not be as good as you once were but if your determined you should be able to find a way to continue playing. People with amputations and other problems find ways to do almost anything. Dont give up. Consulting someone who knows alot about playing guitars can help you find a solution.

Django Reinhardt played guitar with two fingers on his left hand. The drummer in Def Leppard plays drums with one hand.

Yes. Start using your middle finger as your index finger (ring as middle and little as ring) and just keep practicing. I know musicians who have lost digits and still play - and play well! They practice. As long as you have the desire to re-learn your playing - you will do all right. Good luck!
