My sister had a pit bull named Natas. I fit him. My ferret's name is a U'pik (native alaskan) word for "big butt"...(my spelling) 'Amuckbuck'.
If you are trying to pick a name for a pet, I'd suggest to feel out the animals personality and then pick a name that fits and that you like. "Coolest" doesn't really matter, a pet (and a name that you can live with) is a life-long comitment! Their life.
For a dog, it is suggested that you name them something ending with the Y sound. Such as Cody. I guess it just appeals to the dog more then any other sound?

I used to have a dog named Maile (pronounced like Miley). She was named after the maile leaf from Hawaii. A maile leaf is supposed to have super natural powers and bring good luck.
I loved the name, except everyone thought it was a crazy name until I told them the story of the maile leaf.
It's my favorite name ever, but she died when she was 16 years old and I will not reuse a pet's name. She was my one and only Maile.
