I moved from SW MI to NW IN (about an hour drive) and used a franchise of Two Men & a Truck. I moved a one bedroom apt (duplex) & did not even meet the minimum weight for all my things. (They base the cost on total weight of your stuff, and have a minimum charge (was $660) if you do not meet the min weight for your belongings) I was charged $660, and I gave each of the 2 movers a $20 tip--they did a FANTASTIC job!!! I had everything packed before they arrived--they disassembled the bed & reassembled it in the new location, took apart my electronics in the entertainment ctr, and moved my cedar chest & dressers w/everthing still in it. Not a scratch or dent was found, and it took a total of 3 hrs--1 hr ea to load & unload (and they unloaded everything into position in the rooms I requested for the big furniture...) and the 1 hr drive between... They were the best price I found, and were WELL worth the $700 I spent! (Besides, I didn't have any big burly male friends that I could beg to help...again! lol)

I have used a U-Haul truck & done it myself w/the help of friends before, but had HORRIBLE experiences both times w/trying to get a vehicle--I made reservations weeks ahead of time only to end up w/no truck available on the morning I went to pick it up! After finally getting a truck later in the day (the other time, I got lucky & found an available truck from a store that rents out party supplies & tools...) it took 4 or 5 hours for my friends to load everything up & then unload it across town--and I ended up w/a couple pieces of furniture w/dmg...

Good Luck w/the move--if you can afford it, movers are a wonderful "splurge!"
