how can earthworm contribute to enrichin the soil? i know that they loosen the soil. then what? why do earthworms go out of the ground when it rains? and what is the advantage of hermaphrodism to slow moving animals like earthworms? please help me. answering at least one question is already fine. if you answer all three, i'll pick ur ans. as the best

IT enriches the soil by breaking up particles or organic matter in the A horizon of dirt. here is where tunnels are also built that bring in air important for nutrient cycling and water peculation. As for coming out in the rain and hermaphrodism... not sure

In short, they loosen the soil, eating things and making them more dissolvable when pooped, and easier for uptake, etc. The same reason you find them dead in the water, they can't take oxygen from the environment when it is under water. Anytime earthworms meet, which may be rare, they can mate.

Well, they enrich the soil by pooping out all the decaying organic matter they eat.

They'll drown if they stay submerged.

Easier to find someone to breed with if both of you can be either sex.
