2 minutes, like the time at a red light, you leave the car running. If you are talking about the 10-minute long "2 minutes" while you run into the store, shut it off, for the good of your gas mileage and the good of the air, not to mention a running car in a parking lot is a "take one please" sign for thieves. As far as leaving it running because it is cold out, or hot out, nobody's children will melt or freeze in 2 minutes, and if it going to be longer, you should be taking them indoors anyway.

if its just for a few minutes i always leave it running especially in cold weather ,its less wear and tear on the starter, and it doesn't hurt a thing to leave it running, you might burn a few cents worth of gas,but it don't hurt anything, also you wont loose your heat in cold weather either,i know everyone has opinions on this matter, but i have been a mechanic for 36 years, and i wouldn't tell you this is i didn't do it my self, good luck,i hope this help,s.
