This doesn' t even encompass the inventions made under
patents from African Americans engineers that work for
some of the large industries such as GM, ForDMoCo, Pfizer,
and others. The discovery of separation and transfusion of
blood plasm by Dr. Charles Drew, the plasmaphoresis machine
was also invented by an African American. The first open
heart surgery was performed by an African American physician
and the first successful separation of Siamese twins by Dr.
Ben Carson. I would dare to say that countless other inventions
and discoveries may have been performed by many other
African Americans if equal opportunities to the educational
system was introduced in the earlier centuries. Clearly we
are behind the times in technology and medicine due to discri-
minatory practices done early to blacks, women , Native Americans and other American
minorities. The cure for many diseases and solving of other
world issues might well have been already addressed if not
for the ignorance of the early days of our country. We owe
a lot of our shortcomings of our nation to those responsible
for these types of practices.

Proff, very well said.

I think Dr. Charles Drew would be the best choice. His story is remarkable. He invented the technique for storing blood (blood banking) for transfusions by separating the plasma from the blood. His discovery saves countless lives every year including the soldiers during WW II who were some of the first transfusion recipients. Despite all that he had done for the medical profession and the world, he died because after a severe car accident the nearest hospital, which was an all white hospital, refused to admit him because he was black. He was a remarkable man and many people white and black don't know anything about him. I think he would be an excellent choice for your report. Just be sure to do his story justice.

As far as where to get resources, most professors are only going to accept information from websites if they are reliable meaning done by educators, researchers, historians, etc. so no personal web pages. If you have a library card, most public libraries have an online database for research that you can access from your own home. Go to your local library's website and find their link for research databases. Most libraries use EBSCOhost databases so look for that somewhere on their web page. They have a plethora of resources, from medical journals, to newspapers, to scholarly journals, it is amazing, and they are all very reliable. That is where I get most of my research from. But you will need a library card to do it from home.
Good luck

There are great African inventors, and great American inventors, but what is "African-American"? You're either from one place or the other. After all white people who are born in Africa don't' call themselves European-Africans! If you're an American then say so. Color doesn't matter, we are all equal here.
