Hi! I have two guinea pigs and love them! I am not sure how to tell if it is a female or male but I do know how to give them a bath to make them looking clean and smelling good! At petco or petsmart they have shampoo bottle or you could also use baby shampoo. What I do is I get a towel and set it on the bathroom sink. I also have a cup filled with warm water. first, set the guinea pig on the towel and than with a cup filled with water pour it on the guinea pig. than get some shampoo in your hand and rub it in the guinea pigs fur, however do not put any shampoo on its head. than rinse it off after you are done with that. make sure after that to get a dry towel and dry the guinea pig off as well as you can! You probably shouldn't give it a bath the first day that you have it because it just got to a new home but if you would like you can do it the second day! I hope you have a fun time with your new family member! I hope that helped you! good luck. ( also you do not need to give them it often but it is a good idea to give them one every once in a while )

most animals that come petsmart are ushally no old than 1 1/2 u can give it a bath by taking a warm wash rag and rubbing it. or if the guinea pig likes water u con fill the bath tub up with just a inch of warm water no soap or shampoo

Go back to Petsmart and ask the pig's age; they probably have at least a rough idea.
Usually a guinea pig doesn't need a bath, but if it does you can use any mild shampoo or soap, and rinse well. It's not something you do often.

guinea pigs are amazing! We love ours to death! So much that when the mom had babies 2 months after we brought her home from PetSmart..we had to keep all 3 of them. Too adorable to get rid of! We love the piggie noises they make. Let them get used to the environment before you bathe them...no hurry for that. They keep pretty clean by themselves but their nails get very long and curl under if they are not trimmed regularly. We take ours to the dog groomers for their nails. good luck and enjoy

You can sponge bathe your new guinea pig, but be sure he stays as warm as possible, they can catch a cold which if they get chilled a cold can be fatal for them.
