Oh, goodness, such a hard and complicated question. As a mom, my gut instinct is to say no kids allowed! But this is the internet and that's just not very plausible (and there are all sorts of complicated freedom of speech matters there). I think ultimately it's up to parents to monitor their kids online. My girls aren't old enough to be online yet (thank God), but when they are, I intend to keep their computer in the family room where I can keep tabs on them and have some sort of parental controls on it.

If I found out they were looking at pics on myspace or anywhere else, we'd have a good long talk and I'd take away computer priveledges for a while.

I can say the same as queenfair about finding crap anywhere on the internet and about being able to keep up with my kids and finding old friends.
I love myspace but that is because I am not into the bad aspects of myspace. Creating your site and including your favorite songs and writing blogs is fun. I have my friends and interests, and it is a great way to keep in contact with friends and relatives. It probably wouldn't be so bad for kids if the site was strict enforcing the rules. It might not be bad if the kid has parental supervision but then they probably wouldn't want to be bothered if mom was watching over their shoulder. If a kid has a site they should set it on the private setting where only their friends can have access to it. I also think the sites that are considered adult content should have to be made to be set on the private setting too so that kids who are looking up people randomly don't end up on those sites.

The fact of the matter is that your child can go to a lot of sites and see alot of disturbing things. I got a my space to watch out for my grandson and I ended up finding old friends and family that I would never have thought would be there. Now I send messages to myu nephews and daughters and friends and I can click on there pictures and go to their pages and see what they have on there and read comments form friends and its harmless unless they except friends that they don't know. And there are adult sites that they can go to like photobucket, and type in things like sex or **** and it will take them to places where it actually shows it going in close up. But they can do this without having a my space.

If I ever have a kid (snort) (titter), I would warn them at an early age about the dangers of using one of these sites, then bar them from visiting those sites on our computer. One of my friends has a thirteen-year-old sister who posted naked pictures of herself there. She's still allowed on the computer for some reason.

It's unfortunate how unsafe the internet has become. However, myspace isn't the only place that they could be exposed to adult content etc. I'd suggest just monitoring your kids. If you are still worried, talk to them or remove their internet priviledges.

Nothing. Just let them have fun. At least they are not doing drugs.

if your kid is smart enough not to reveal enough about him/herself then let them, and if they're not then just make sure they don't and it will be fine
