We have spent over a trillion dollars over the last decade to fight hunger and poverty in Africa. More people are hungry and dying than ever before.
At least with war, we have some tangible results.

heres a little fact for you; the government IS spending money on food & medicine. Another fact. You dont need to give permission for your taxes to be spent on anything. We vote for Representatives to use our money as they see fit. Go study some history and economics & you'll be a better person for it.
cakerKing, I'm sorry that you are so misinformed about the world situation that we live in. I hope that if another terrorist attack is planned and executed on US soil, that you are close enough to hear the blast & feel the heat from it. Maybe then you'll change your attitude. For now, you can sit around the campfire with the militant muslim extremists singing Kumbaya & passing out food packs to all the hungry people of the world. U Dope!

no offense to people but I consider myself very patriotic so for one thing, I do feel bad for the people but im sorry first thing is first our people, our saftey and our families and our troops. I think it's a question not needed to be asked, We give out tons of money to countries and knowing good and well prices here are sky rocketing, and the avg american struggles to pay bills and live and feed their families. The war although not fully justified is still in no way of unimportance. It's not like no good has come of it. I do wish the troops could just come home and it'd be over becuase i've personally known 4 people to die over there so far. TO question the war though is like tellin them your dying for nothing and that's not right the whole reason you have all the freedom you do is because of wars, and us fighting for it. I hate to be selfish because i even at times have went weeks without being able to afford food and eat and i know it's a pretty low place to be, but We (the poeple in america) come first. I don't see all the other countires jumping at the gun to come help us. Like Hurricance Katrinia it's was us who helped ourselves millions of our own went down and voulnteered our time. So yes it'd be nice to save the world but we cant do that we arent super humans but we gotta do what we can. That doesn't involve coming to every other countries rescue.

The welfare of thousands worldwide neigh in the US is of no consequence to the great US industrial machine. If there's no profit in it for US conglomerates then there's no interest even if it means lives. Spending billions on war keeps the machine alive and insures the mega rich will get richer. Nothing in the US industrial complex is about compassion even when it comes to the health of the very planet we live on.

Where in our Constitution or in the UN Charter does it say that the USA is the world's benefactor? What makes you think that our function, in this world, is to handle all the mistakes of every other country?
The USA has every right to be as selfish as any other country and we can spend our money any way we wish.
If a particular country starts to bankrupt, it had better start shifting emphasis and try to stay afloat instead of waiting for Uncle Sam to prop it up.

May i add my 3 u.s cents in worth, if one might allow. Not only is this Industrial Machine have no compassion, i will mention one simple fact about one simple thing. Someone mentioned health and medicine? Well, most "Titan' pharmaceutical companies spend on a avarage of 10% of there recources on a cure for diseases, and a whopping 90% on furthering the spread and application of carcinogenic agents.

The government spends billions on food, medicine and aid for other countries. The US is the most generous country in the world both as a total aggregate and on a per capita basis when all government spending and private and faith based spending is counted.

Yeah, well that's Bush adminstration - he is out for one thing only - mo money mo money mo money. So what if he had to kill a few thousands here and there.
Didnt you hear, when Bush dies, he's going to take the money with him to his after life, that's why he kills innocents and guilty alike and takes their money !
Seriously though, US is very arrogant country and a lot of Americans are begining to see what the world already knew about them. US likes to police the world without understanding it and it wants to use force to get what it wants.

its too late to stop the war but we can ask why it was started and how to prevent it from happening again. the main cause is Bush and his administration. this war was to stop weapons of mass destruction which we did not find because they did not exist. the Bush administration led america to beleive we were at threat and as a result theyve probably secretly benefited through land or oil. this was is underway and nothing will stop it. the starving people of this world will just have to hope we dont get another illiterate redneck next term.

I would be far happier to see more of my tax dollars spent on helping people, too (although I agree that some are). As for *why* we're spending billions on war instead? It has a lot to do with the current administration.
