Every major league game begins with six dozen balls. The average life of a ball is six pitches. Since most major league games average between 250 and 300 pitches, that would put the ball count at about 40 or 50 balls used per game.

About every third or fourth pitch is a new ball. Anytime a ball hits the dirt or makes contact with the batters bat, the pitcher gets a new ball from the home plate Ump. Take the average number of pitches in a game and divide by 3 or 4 and that will give you the number. I'm thinking it's probably around 60-80 balls per game.

its in the hundreds..they have said 131 on average on tv last year..its b/c of the foul balls, the homeruns,if a ball gets a torn lace or a dent or a scuff, they switch it out...so a pitcher is basically using a brand new ball every pitch

Well let's see there's nine guys on two teams so that makes eighteen... on average I'd say about thirty-six. plus there's a possibility for pinch hitters... :P
