I had bought an amber komboloi from Efosjewelry. The price was excellent (70 Euro) and I have enjoyed it for 3 years now. It is the komboloi in the last photo on this page: http://www.efosjewelry.com/worrybead/amber.html
Unfortunately I cannot find a link to their online store anymore.

Vergina is right about Santorini - a very photogenic volcanic island including guest houses built into caves in some of the steep cliffs on its internal rim. Authentic? No. I found it irritating being pestered by hawkers all the time to go into their restaurants. If we want authentic, we are probably about 30 years too late. Bear in mind that Mikonos is widely considered to be the jewel of the Cyclades with very well preserved island architecture, windmills and great beaches, but it gets very busy (with a crowd that will include some of the cream of Athens). Very developed, of course, so it is very pretty but you couldn't say it was authentic. The most authentic (i.e. less developed) island I've been to is the little island of Iraklia south of Naxos, but that was full of Norwegians and you started to wonder if you were really in Greece or some sunny Norwegian colony. Another island to consider is Amorgos, where the film The Big Blue was shot. Ignore Mamma Mia and avoid Skopelos. And definitely avoid Skiathos.
