What country do you live in? We have public schools for education and health departments that give reduced and free medical care in the US already.

Isn't it funny, how wanting balanced education and basic health coverage is the plan of supposed "elitists," while the party that's accusing us of being elitists are the ones most likely to earn the top 1% of income and send their children to private schools. Over 60% of the people in prison are functionally illiterate. There's a decent theory that if we could provide better education for everyone, fewer people would end up committing crimes and going to prison, which costs us less both in tax dollars and in pain and suffering. So I agree with you.

No you are not an elitist! an elitist is a person who only cares about the interests and welfare of the top 1% (economically speaking only) of the population, and the elitist regards the average people as serfs!!!!

I just read another answerer refer to poor people as undeserving, and that is sooooooooooo hopelessly devolved, that it just blows my mind. There is no such thing as a person who is undeserving, and anyone who thinks that having money makes you superior, is totally soulless!!!!

Yes, you'd be compassionate and caring. And you'd even be for a more efficient and less costly medical system. One of the main reasons that medical/hospital costs are so absurdly high in this country is that hospitals have to charge the insured enough to compensate for the costs of treating the uninsured. So we are already paying for the uninsured in terms of the extraordinarily higher prices we pay ourselves when we go to the hospital. It would be much more efficient if we had a government system that would cover everyone. Then hospitals would not have to charge $200 for a toothbrush to compensate for the person who couldn't pay.

And there is nothing "undeserving" about the father who, though no fault of his own, gets laid off from his job and loses his insurance and then one of his children comes down with a serious illness. So forget about that "undeserving" crap.

Nope. An elitist wouldn't be concerned with helping the undeserving. Your question implies that you don't have the proper philosophy to be an "elitist".

It does not make you anything except for compassionate and caring.....This means nothing to the political right in this country, but it means everything in what truly matters.
