Hydrofluoric acid, reacts with sodium hydroxide to form a compound tht is used in toothpaste to pervent cavities. What is the nae of the compound?

The above two people are correct. The reaction is:

HF + NaOH --> NaF + H2O

Just a bit of info - you didn't ask for - NaF is pretty toxic stuff (ref: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sodium_fluoride). It is only in toothpaste at a VERY small percentage (about .25%/weight)

If you were to use this stuff to salt your food instead of normal table salt (NaCl) - you would die!
