I've heard that there is a law that says your boss does not have to give a reason for firing you, but this doesn't seem like it should be allowed. Don't employees have the right to know? Please help.

If your employment is "at will" then, no, they don't have to give you a reason, just as you would not have to give them a reason if you quit. California (where I a) is an "at-will" state, meaning that all employers in California are "at-will". Check the laws in your state and I bet you'll find it the same there too.

I live in New York and I've been fired at one job in the past without reason. I was working at a school and the director said that they were firing me . I asked why , he said "THere are pros and cons" that was his answer. I couldn't argue because when I was hired, the employee handbook said that they are allowed to fire employees without reason.

Employers do not have to give you a reason for firing you. They just say, "you are fired. This is not working out." That is it. This is an "at will" state. Yes, it is legal.

In most or all states, they do not need a reason to fire you.

BUT... with all the lawsuits and such these days, they will have a reason whether they tell it to you or not! Even if they had to dig something up or use a minor infracture, that is a good enough excuse to document letting you go.

Depends on your state, but yes, most can fire you without a reason.

all depends on the Company and where you are
.it differs all over the world
if the boss owns the company ,he can just about do what he likes unless there is a contract with definate agreements

many statesa are right to work states. the employer is under no obligation to tell why you were let go, nor to pay severance. some are but each state has their own laws.
