We're planning on getting cows, and I'd like to get a horse, too. The problem is, I don't know if you can keep cows and horses in the same enclosure. Is there any reason why I shouldn't?

Yes they'll be fine. But seperate your horse from the cattle when being fed. There is a huge difference in horse quality hay and cattle hay. Also your horse can colic if fed cattle cubes or feed. This is because horse do not produce urea or bolus which cattle do to break down toxic material. Most cattle feed is processed differently and doesn't go through the same procedures that a horse feed would. Many of the toxicities that are removed from horse feed is not removed from cattles.

Oh yeah they will be fine if a goat can get along with chickens then you are a okay and a friend of mine has 8 cows with 4 horses and they are in a 12 acre pasture so they get along fine.

OKAY!!!!!!!!!READ THIS!!!!!! i have 5 horses that run on 40 acres with 20+ cows and ive never had a problem with them....my horses kick the snot out of each other, but have never kicked a cow.....the cows are NOT stupid, they move away and learn to stay away from the horses....u dont HAVE to seperate them to feed...the horses will be fine eating the same hay and cubes as the cows eat, but the horses will chase the cows from the feed, so u might want to seperate them ,so the cows get their fair share, but thats ur choice....if the cows get used to the horses when u work them all u have to do is run full speed at the cows a few times and they'll get scared of the horse...so then they'll respet the horse when it has a rider

I have 1 horse and 1 cow. They are in the same pasture. They get along just fine. I don't know if it would be different with a bunch of them, but I don't see why it would.

I think they actually keep each other company.

Provided you have enough room for them all. They're both a heard animal and usually get along just fine, evan depend on one another for companionship, but I have seen instances where older, more "set in there ways" animals have just steadily kicked the snot out of each other and had to be separated because the Vet bills got too high! Horses are kinda smart, but cows are stupid and sometimes just won't take hints from low patients horses. Make sure you find out as much as possible before you buy. If you buy a horse that is guaranteed sound, you should be alright! good Luck and let me know how it turned out!

Well the horse may not like the cows because it might feel ganged up. Can you not cordon off an area? Horses are herd animals and need to be kept in groups of two or more.

if you have a extras land spot where you can just put the cows in one field land with wodden fences and other for the horses to run around and have fresh growning green grasses so they can eat the grasses . you shouldnt put all of them together in one pasture because they might get into huge fights and plus cows must needed a big place to lay down when they want to sleep or relax .
