I know this is old news, but what do most of you think of what Natalie Maines said in concert on the eve of the invasion of Iraq? I never had listened to the Dixie Chicks before because I really wasn't into country music. Then I heard what Natalie did and I decided to try some of their stuff. I am now a die hard Chicks fan forever!! And I applaud Natalie for speaking up. I totally disagreed with Bush's decision for alot of different reasons and I felt like Natalie was speaking out for people like me. I don't want the world to think every American has the mentality of our so called president.

Hey I agree 100% It's kinda scary to think that people went so far as to smash and run over their Cd's and to even threaten their lives. If you're upset at what an artist says, be it on stage or in a song, Dude, just don't buy their stuff. The Chicks maybe lost some of their fan base but who needs wacko fans like that.

Natalie Maines is your typical spoiled over indulged nitwit celebrity type trying to save the world. I can give a ratsazz as to what her political beliefs are but if she really had any guts... she should have made that statement in Texas and not in Europe.

The Chicks alienated their country music fan base and are still paying the price with cancelled concerts and lower cd sales. When I pay to hear a musician I really do not want to know their political beliefs, sexual preference or who they voted for in the last election.

I used to like their music, but when they started bad mouthing people, I threw their tapes out the door of my pickup truck and ran over them a couple times. We have the same choice as they do to express our freedoms. I honestly think that our fight for continued western freedom against Jihad is real because I am in Iraq now supporting our troops to the end. If Islam ran the USA and world as they want....people like the Dixie Chicks would be the first one's exterminated as well as any other entertainers, educators, well....everyone who holds western ideals. You people need to wake up to the fact that this threat is REAL , it is not a TV show, your little existance on this earth is numbered if you don't start realizing that.

I think everyone is entitled to their own opions. I really don't care what she said or what she says. I listen to the Dixie Chicks because I like their sound and their music.

well, I'm not really a fan of them myself.
and I really don't like it when musicians or actors get all political. to me their purpose is to entertain. and when they voice to others their opinion of a subject, it kinda influences SOME to take on the artist's view, instead of formulating an opinion of their own.

I see the chicks' right to support or denounce Bush. but I don't like it when they, or other musicans make everything a political statement.

Politically, yes. Musically, no.

Do I support their right to state their opinions on Bush and the war?...sure.

Will I support their singing career because of their opinions on Bush and the war?...nope.

And that is MY right. Freedom of speech does not mean freedom of consequences.

I believe that everyone is entitled to their own opinions--but people with more social recognition should not be using their power to spread their mentality. Shut up and sing
