Is it genetic or learned from others? Is it contagious? Can I catch "gay"? Is there a cure for gay?

If it is a choice, what makes that choice seem attractive? How someone was raised? Can you raise a child to be gay?

Homosexuality is not a disease or an illness or any other medical condition. It is genetic and therefore cannot be 'caught' from someone or 'given' to another like the flu. The only way for it to be passed on to another person is through genes.
Since it is genetic, there is no cure, but there is no need for one; the only people who have a problem with gays are hetersexuals, and it's not their decision anyway.
I wouldn't literally call it a choice, those who are born with the gene have certain hormones that make people of the same sex seem attractive to them.
The environment in which someone was raised would not be a huge deciding factor to wheather they were gay or not. It may have a very small influence in their preference, but more likely contribute to what they think of homosexuals and their acceptance of gays and lesbians. Think of it purely as a genetic thing, you can't exactly raise a child to have brown hair for instance.

Good question though, a lot of people are too afraid to ask such things.

You can raise a child to be anything just as you can raise a dog to fetch. The question is do people understand that their actions effect the outcome of a child through the development stages? Is being gay something that is nature of nurtured is a different story. At the risk of seeming too politiclly correct I think that the true answer is that it could be both. Some are born gay and others simply become attracted to the same sex for one reason or another. Again, this is a case of humans thinking that they are a better breed than anyother living thing and putting a label on an activity. When a male dog humps another male dog does that mean he is gay? Humans seem to get hung up on these types of things. Ok, I am off to my little planet now..................

My best friend is gay. He knew from the time he was ten that he was attracted to men. He was raised in a fairly religious catholic house hold. His mother certainly is not thrilled with having a gay son. For several years he claimed to be Bi (a lot of gay men seem to have difficulty admitting they are gay to themsleves...it seems like if they say they are Bi...it makes them less gay), and eventually just came out as gay. My question is....why would anyone make that choice? It's a more difficult life style, you face discrimination, you face straining family relationships and friends, you are in a disadvantageous tax bracket. Why would ANY 10 year old choose that?

When I was ten, I was sneaking daddy's penthouse from under the bed and sneaking it over to my friend's house. Just as I was beginning to think about sex with women....he was looking at dudes. I never made a choice to be straight. I was born wanting to have sex with women. If I never made a choice, why would he?

If there is a God, I suspect he hates intolerance and bigots more then he hates men who like men. Besides....without gays....we'd lose half of our stand up comedy, hair stylists, and fashion sense.

NO. It's not a disease to be caught.

It is not a choice. You are born the way you are: gay or straight, blond hair, or blue eyes.

It's not how you're raised and you can't raise a child to be gay.

You're born that way. It can't be cured just as you can't be cured of being straight.

Learn facts, girl.

Are you trying to make yourself sound ignorant?

Homosexuality isn't a disease, and it isn't a choice. You can't be raised to be homosexual, it is how you are. It is a lifestyle. Scientists have proven that there is a gene which determines sexuality, in some people it will determine that they are straight, and in other people it will determine that they are homosexual.
You can't change it.

Maybe you should educate yourself a little more.
