Would suggest the royal museum and royal art gallery....both fairly close to each other......you could go for a wander round the central market if you want to waste some time......

Langkawi is NOT in Alor Setar anyway. But try the Menara Alor Setar... It's a smaller replica of the KL tower.

What about visiting the Pasar Rabu? Its in the heart of Alor Setar.
You can buy traditional food or kueh there at a cheaper price. Can make them as a gift too. Variety of clothes, crafty things are also sold there.

Alor Setar..
Let me list what/where u can visit in Alor Setar & its surrounding.
- Museum. (at heart of the town)
- Art Museum.
- historical building.. palace, balai besar & zahir mosque
- Kota Kuala Kedah (old fort for Kedah tua country - been the since 800 yrs ago)
- Candi Bujang at Mount Jerai (buddha temple & settlement)
- lots of rice field green (when its young) gold color (when it ripe)
-Pekan Rabu place to shop for stuff & dry food
-there's many more enjoy'
