When ever I have a slow day at work i bring my truck into the shop and give it a look over, rotate the tires, check fluid levels, check the brakes, do a suspention check and undervehicle check, and check under hood to see if anything is damaged or out of place. A lot of garages will offer a seasonal inspection or vehicle inspection, The one our shop does is about $70 and it comes with an oil change. Just keep with the maintance schedual and if it needs it do it as soon as possible idea.

change the oil and coolant myself, check tire tread and pressure regularly, wash and vacuum the car regularly (although I don't do it too much in the winter), and just take good care of it in general. In the summer and spring I like to give it a nice bath, shine the wheels, wax it, etc. the most important thing to remember is to not ignore any problem the vehicle might have. even a small noise should be checked out by a reliable mechanic (a.k.a. not jiffy lube or midas).
