Could a UTI be a sign of pregnancy? I got pregnant in July and had a UTI the entire month of August. After missing 2 periods I decided to take a test and was around 9 weeks when I found out. But Im wondering could the UTI had been a sign that I was pregnant or probably not? Ive heard of a few women who went to the Dr. that thought they had a UTI but were told they were pregnant instead. Im just wondering because i didnt have any signs of pregnancy until around 12 weeks except missed periods and just kinda wondered if anyone else had one at the start of their pregnancy? This isnt going to like make a difference in life or anything i just kinda wondered. Thanks.

UTI is probably not a sign of pregnancy, but UTIs are much, much more common in pregnant women than in non-pregnant women. Elevated blood levels of progesterone cause the smooth muscle in your ureters to relax, and urine stagnates and gets infected. Also, later in pregnancy, the uterus presses down on the ureters where they cross into the pelvis, causing more stagnation, and further increasing the risk of infection. If you have another UTI during this pregnancy, your doctor will probably want to start you on medicine to take every day to prevent further UTIs, because UTIs can place you at risk for preterm labor.

I don't think UTI's are a sign of pregnancy, it is just very common for pregnant women to get them. I got them in the beginning of both of my pregnancies.
