My daughter, Emma, has been the best sleeper. I have had a problem lately trying to decide if I am going to stop the pacifier cold turkey. If it pops out, it is the only reason she wakes up. While falling asleep, if she pops it out, then she has to cry and start all over again. I have read that it is better to stop sooner than later, before they become really attached and more aware of the sudden change. She is 5 months old, I was thinking this was a good time, especially since more recently she pulls it out herself right after you put it in, and then she wonders 'how did it come out again...' I also don't want her to ecome a finger sucker, because you can't take fingers away....Any thoughts?

Oh...and I only give it to her at bedtime and at night, not during the day at all.

Her pulling the plug out and having to figure out how to put it back in is a sign she is discovering cause/effect. By taking away her pacifier, she will have to learn this another way (her finger for instance). My doc says 1 yr is a good time.

If you want to do it, do it now, because later it will be harder. My oldest boy (now 15) drop the pacifier at 6 months old by himself, one day he just decided he didn't need it anymore, now my youngest baby who is 13 months old, there is no way I could take that pacifier away, he starts looking for it if it falls, and he has lost it a few times and I have to rush to the store to buy one exactly like the one he lost, otherwise he wont take it. So the sooner the better. Good Luck!

well, she is awfully young and it is a real self soother. if u do take it away now it will probaly be easier than when she is 10 mon. or a year. my baby kind of stopped on her own at about 5-6 months. my baby does not suck fingers or thumbs and sleeps well on her own. if u really want to u can try. is she rolling over yet?they say when the baby is still at risk of S.I.D.s its good to use the pacifier because they dont sleep as deeply with it.

yeah, you don't want her to start sucking a thumb or finger instead. You can give it a try with out the pacifier and see how it goes. If she is ok, then you're all done, if she is upset after a few days, then you may have to try something else.

My first 2 sons have been given rid of it on their very own around 9 and sixteen mo., even nevertheless my 0.33 son did not. The closer he have been given to 2, i began out removing the series by throwing them away and not having them everywhere in the abode. Then I in basic terms allowed him to have the bink in church (which saved him quiet) and at sleepy time. As i began out the final weaning levels i could carry him for his naps or take a seat by him and allow him have the bink for some mintues and then take it way asserting he grew to become right into a super boy and did not choose it to flow to sleep. each few days I shortened the time he have been given to suck on it. at some point he grew to become into interior the kitchen with the bink after his nap and that i stated, "you do not choose that, you're a super boy. Why do not you throw it interior the trash." have self assurance it or not, he did. It grew to become into advantageous and difficulty-free with little fussing. approximately 3 wks later he chanced on my one spare interior the cupboard (only in case) and he gave some sucks and then threw it interior the trash too. i'm particular chilly turkey works too, it only relies upon on what you think of could artwork ultimate to your infant. i in my opinion do not opt to take heed to an outstanding sort of crying so I opted for the extra sluggish removal. As a midsection floor you will possibly desire to poke a pin hollow interior the tip and daily make it a sprint larger and which will optimistically get rid of the convenience that chanced on with it. do not concern approximately his tooth, you're able to do a steady technique and his tooth would be superb. solid success. Chuck it in the bin!!! Before she gets any older! It may mean patting her, or singing to her, she is after all only 5 months but get rid of it. Pacifiers are terrible for speech development, and palate development not to mention extremely habit forming. Now is a great time to get rid of it. Good Luck!

You should try weaning her off of it before her teeth come in. If anything, she will let you know when she's ready to get rid of it by biting it, although some kids want it forever.
If she throws it or anything, then just dont offer it to her anymore and see what happens.

first of al the pacifier is bad cuz emma has created a habit. its best if u stop it earlier. She'll get used to it with out the pacifier. let her cry for awahile and then she'll jus lose energy and stop crying.

why suffer now? a common thing to do is when the child is two to have a "farewell binky" ceremony" where it is sent away and then replaced with a toy the child wants.
