There was a study done a long time ago where they measured the brain activity of kids doing various things like watching TV, drawing, talking, sleeping and so on. Of all the activities, the brain was least active while watching TV. Recent studies have shown that exercising your brain by doing puzzles and such helps retain your ability to think and reason. Between the two it implies that watching TV can make your brain less active and reduce your ability to think.
There is a lot of utterly worthless trash on TV and has been for many years. Contrast watching and absorbing that garbage with doing something like reading or some other active pastime. It seems to me you would have greater opportunity to learn new things while away from the TV.
There's also the consideration that your metabolism slows down when you sit still for lengths of time. That means all parts of your body get fewer nutrients and less oxygen.
Perhaps there is no proof that watching TV makes you stupid but the smartest people I know do not watch TV. Perhaps that is a coincidence. However, my mind is important to me and I don't intend to take that chance.

properly, there are a tremendous variety of those that pick you to imagine watching television will make you stupid. in spite of the undeniable fact that, i do not imagine this is all undesirable. as an social gathering, do you've any theory how a lot I have discovered about drugs from watching gray's Anatomy? Or forensic technology from watching CSI? Or pop custom type watching Gilmore females? this is all relative, i imagine. I have also discovered lots from issues that are meant to be discovered from. delivery Day on Discovery well being, courses on the historic previous Channel, as an social gathering. yet when you're sitting round watching cartoons or something like it, i will see the way it does no longer be too sturdy. each little thing sparsely.

I think it depends on how you watch TV. You gotta do it in a semi detached way so you don't get sucked in, and brain washed. Wanna hear an interestin fact? Most of the 'power' countries, have special armies called the "Psychic Armies". In China, they go to small remote areas, where there is no TV, to find children to train. Because these children have very open, unpolluted minds.

Well, it depends. In small children all the way until your twenties, you can be greatly affected by the programs you watch. We all know the violent-shows issue with parents and their kids, and some shows serve as a form of peer-pressure towards adolescents.
It really depends on the shows you watch, and how long you spend glued to the screen. My parents practically forced me to watch national geographic and the science channel for years.

i heard one time that it does...but i guess what they are trying to say is, if you spend most of your time focused on the square box infront of you, like becoming a couch potato, we lose our creativity as compared when you spend more time reading books. see in reading, with just the words you are reading, you are carried away to a different place or time.
but i guess it depends on the shows you watch. there are shows that all are make believe only, and there are those that are very informative and educational as well. i love watching discovery channels, animal planet, and national geography channels.
i think there should be a balance between just purely entertainment and watching those that will inspire you to become creative as well and shows that are educational.
