It is a form of shell rot. But is not as seriouse as it sounds. You could take it to your vet or do a home remady (that your vet will probably tell you to do anyway he will just charge you for the imfo) prepare a dry box for the turtle (the bacteria that causes shell rot needs water) keep the turtle in the dry box, you can let it swim IN A CLEAN STERAL TANK for about 20 minutes a day. Atleast once a day coat its shell in provodine-iodine sollution (you can get it a wal mart) once you have coated it don't watch it off, it could take one to a few weeks to go away depending on the serveraty of the infection. Be shure to keep it warm and feed it plenty during this time. And be shure to thuroughly clean his tank before he goes back in.

I'm really not qualified and know very little about turtles BUT I know this doesn't sound good. I also know that turtles don't last too long if they have a bacterial infection or whatever, so I'd get the turtle in to a qualified reptile/amphibian vet instead of wasting time on here while the turtle suffers.
Please let us know how it turns out.

I am not sure what you mean, but you can try to post this (perhaps with pictures) at the Urgent Care forum at http://www.turtleforum.com

I have one and it never happened to mine. It sounds like you should take it to the vet.
