I was on msn messanger last week and a friend supposidly sent me a IM saying "I hope this isn't you...(URL)" I, of course being blond, opened it and it downloaded to my computer. The next day I found out that I couldn't get on the internet and a thing popped up on my desktop saying install on it.It was the virus. I deleted it though but every time I turn my computer on its there. I can't seem to get messenger off my computer either since I know thats where it came from. My friend says the virus spreads by sending a message to everybody on your contact list without you knowing. Any suggestions on how to get rid of it? Thanks! ^^

First off, I hope you've learned a lesson about downloading files...never do it unless you are CERTAIN of their origin. Now, onto the virus. I'll assume 2 things: 1, you are using a windows PC; and 2, you have a up-to-date antivirus (AV) program that is running at all times the PC is on. Start by using the AV program to scan your complete hard drive for viruses. If the virus is detected and quarantined, then that should solve your problem. However, that would be too easy :) If the virus is detected but not removed or quarantined, make a note of the virus name. Next, boot into safe mode, and rescan the hard drive with the AV software. If this still does not terminate the virus, go to www.sarc.com and look up the virus. This site is maintained by Symantec AntiVirus and should have detailed instructions for removal of the virus. You must follow the directions exactly, which may take you quite a while. The last resort is to back up your data files and reformat the hard drive, reload windows, all your drivers, and applications....definitely not a job for the novice!!! If it comes to this, take your pc to an expert unless you are VERY sure you can handle it. Good luck!

Regardless of whether or not you have a virus at any given time, you should always have antivirus software that you use and keep up to date. Hopefully you already have a program. Install the updates and run the program-it should be able to at least indentify the virus you have. It may be able to delete it or heal the file, if not, I then write down the virus name and head over to http://www.symantec.com/index.htm and find the info page on the virus. Many of them have detailed instructions on how to get rid of tricky viruses. In the future, be more careful about downloading things and make sure you keep your anti-virus software up to date and also get a usb or external hardrive to keep your important files if you have to completely reboot your system in the future-I've had to, and losing everything sucks!

since you dont have access to internet, your best bet for now and the future is to buy anti-virus/anti-spyware from the store. symantec is the best.... just install the programs and you should be able to scan through the program, find the virus(es) and get rid of it/them..... good luck!

it is no longer rebooting. you're reformatting. certain that receives rid of them, yet that receives fairly stressful. merely get Microsoft safe practices needs or Avast! living house version. they are going to guard you from maximum viruses, yet no application in the international will stop each and every thing.
