i bought a 200 amp alternator from summit and tried mounting it to my 69 charger 383. they said that it fit my car but it wont..its not even close...does anyone else have this problem, know whats wrong, or how to fix it?

you are going to have to fabricate some brackets and spacers. each one that doent fit is different. sorry man

You got the wrong alternator.. there were 2 major diff types for that year.. i suspect you got one for a small block.. I've had this problem before.. one wont fit the other LOL and well face it people working in autozone these days arent rocket scientists particularly on something that old..

Doesn't mount? That's only half your problem...did they explain to you that you can't drive a 200A alternator with a V-belt? You're going to need a serp belt to pull the torque, which means new alternator and crank pulleys. And whatever you do, don't forget to upgrade the alternator harness and battery cables.

You will have to modify or build a new mount. I believe I would go back to the original alternator, this keeps the car original and makes it more valuable.

There is a good chance someone has removed the original mount brackets throughout the years. Make sure those are correct.

you need to fab up some brackets and i think your alt has way too much juice, gonna jack your 383 up!!!
