i've attempted to do the eyeshadow on the lower lid but it just ends up looking dirty and sloppy, not at all clean and polished like i see on other women.

For example, i love the way Kelly clarkson looks in her "A moment like this" video. Her eyes look awesome with shadow along the bottom lids.

How can i do this properly so it looks right? And what color am i supposed to use? I just want a soft, pretty effect.

I actually DO pull this off. After a many nights with my girlfriends using every slanted brush and Q-tip we could find we finally discovered what works great! The back of your eyeliner pencil, you know that little sponge thing? dip it in your black eyeshadow and stay close the the lash line. Then get a smokey dark gray color, clean off the sponge, dip it in the gray and go slightly below .. thicker towards the outside and much thinner towards the inside! Hope you get it!

Leave the lower lashes alone. Lining lower lashes makes your eyes look smaller and is an outdated look.
Kelly Clarkson's smokey eyes can only be pulled off by a few people. most of us woud look like we got punched in the eye, so try and see at home, but don't be surprised if it doesn't look right, most people can't pull that look off.

It's not that good of an idea to do that but if you really want to, here;s how to do it:

1) get an angled eyeshadow brush like this one

2) dip the brush in water, and dip into eyshadow

3) apply to lower lid

easy! lol...good luck!
have fun! :)

certain, yet for below particular colors. Gold, brown, black, and deep blue is tremendous for bottom lid. attempt to circumvent the brilliant colors like purple, purple, or eco-friendly. ~be constructive to compare the shade with the proper lid, in the different case it is gruesome besides~
