Most definitely. All major orifices for an alligator have watertight seals, nostrils, ears, and throat. Check it out, I'll have to find it again, but looking for images to answer another question earlier, I found some pretty nifty footage, I'll edit in a few minutes.

Absolutely. That is their home, and they are very adept in the water. They actually have it difficult on land to attack.

Yep. They bite hard and roll, twisting their victim in their teeth. It's actually EASIER to do this in water than on land.
